2011 Continued

For 2011, it is pretty easy to decide what the highlight of our year was..... MARRIAGE!  April 28th could not come soon enough.

The celebrations began on Tuesday night as I went through the temple for the first time.  What an incredible experience it was.  My mom was by my side the entire time, and I had quite the support system there.  For the first time, my family was all together in the temple with our spouses.  I am pretty sure this is exactly what heaven is like.

The next day, Garrett, his groomsmen, and the guys in the family headed out for a little bachelors party!   The went out for some golfing.  You know us Mormons, we are quite the partiers!  That night, we had our wedding dinner.  Since Garrett's family is from out of town, my sweet mom offered to do the entire dinner.  We had it in their unbelievable backyard and it was definitely a night to remember!

It was pretty enough to be a reception in and of itself!  We had a delicious cafe rio style dinner, a little performance, and time to meet everyone in town for the wedding.  If you know my mom, you know she doesn't do anything half way and this was definitely not an exception.  When I look back on my wedding, this night will be one of my favorite memories.

After the party had died down, I met my best friends for our little gelato tradition!  The night before one of us ties the knot, we all head to Scottsdale for a delicious treat.  I don't know what I would do without these girls!

The day had finally arrived!  Since we did not get married until 3 PM, we had plenty of free time in the morning.  We both attempted to sleep in (key word: attempted).  We had a little breakfast, and the Garrett decided to meet some family at the gym to waste some time.  I ran a couple miles to burn off some of my energy, and then started the getting ready process!  Before you know it, my hair was done, make up was on, and I was ready to head to the temple.  It was at this time that I discovered the dress I had picked out to wear wouldn't fit over my big hair.... one of the many times my sister's wardrobe has come in handy!

Our wedding was perfect.  The room was filled with the people we love most, and it became official that Garrett would be mine forever.  How could it get any better than that?

It was then time for the party!  If you know me, you know I am pretty laid back.  I wasn't one of those girls who was worried about every little detail... but who would be with a mom like mine as the planner?  It turned out beautiful, and I loved everything about the night.

Sadly, we left the party without getting any of the delicious food!  We didn't discover this until we got to our hotel, but don't worry we survived!  Once we arrived, we were informed that the only rooms they had left were double beds... haha oh well!  The next day we relaxed, checked out of our hotel, and explored Scottsdale a little bit.  We then headed back to my parents house to enjoy some of the leftovers. Our next stop was the airport!  All of the adults in my family headed to Colorado for our reception there.

We got a little lost on our way to the reception...but don't worry we arrived about 2 minutes before the reception began!  Sadly I have no pictures from the night.. but it was beautiful!  It was a blast hearing everyone's stories about Garrett, and meeting many of the people I had heard so much about.  And my sisters/ the groomsmen were quite the troopers for standing in line most of the night!

The next morning, Garrett and I were off to Hawaii!  We arrived to sunshine and clear skies, which we enjoyed for about 2 days.  The rest of the 10 days were.... rainy to say the least!  We had flash flood warnings just about the whole time.  I got a little nervous that our condo was going to float away!  But we still had a blast.

After leaving paradise, we flew back to Arizona to pack up our wedding gifts.  My parents rented a uhaul to help move us to Colorado.  The pulled the trailer, while we followed behind in my car.  We had quite the road trip!  The highlight was our stop in Santa Fe for some delicious New Mexican food and a movie.

Once we made it to Denver, we had quite the long list of things to do!  We got there on Friday and started the moving in process.  Thanks to our parents, Randy, and Melissa, we were able to get all moved in one weekend.  Thanks to American Furniture Warehouse, we were also able to furnish our little apartment without spending every dime we had.

My parents headed back to AZ on Sunday morning, and I had a hard time saying goodbye.  But our lives in Colorado quickly began as we headed to our new ward, and Garrett started his new job.  I had a couple weeks to get our house in order before I began working.  The rest of the summer was the start of real life for Garrett and I!  But we did get to do a few fun things, including a trip to California with my family (where I forgot my camera), a couple trips to the cabin, hiking our 1st 14er,  a weekend road trip to Utah, and a hike up to Hanging lake.

Stay tuned for our crazy fall of football and traveling!  And sorry... I'm a little bit long winded!

We are alive!

Well the title says it all.  But I made a New Year Resolution to get better at this so wish me luck!  I have decided to do a little year in review to sum up our life.  Enjoy!

The New Year began with a big change for this little college student..... Student teaching!  Oh what an adventure it was.  I have never worked so hard, been so discouraged, or  learned so much.  The teacher I worked with was a tad bit bipolar, but everything worked out great in the end.

I still managed to have some fun my last semester of college!

Seeing Sister West after her knee surgery
Waiting in line to watch countless BYU basketball games

NCAA tournament in Denver (don't mind my eye....)

At the beginning of April, the wedding festivities began!  I am one spoiled girl, having 4 separate showers.  The first one was in Colorado, followed by a Wonnacott family shower in Utah.  I then had one with my friends, and finally a shower in AZ thrown by my sisters and mom.  And sadly we were having too much fun to take many pictures!

I can't imagine my life without these girls!

Leave it to my mom to find the cutest decorations!

Next up, we both Graduated from BYU!

So proud of this cute little graduate!

woowho!

We were both thrilled to graduate, but it was kind of overshadowed by what would be happening the next week.  Since we had a rather long engagement, we were both extremely ready to seal the deal!  The morning after graduation, we woke up bright and early for a little road trip!  Garrett and I drove his car to Denver, while my angelic parents drove my car down to AZ.  What would I ever do without those two?

Once we made it to Denver, we had several appointments to look at apartments.  We ended up canceling our first appointment after driving around the parking lot... Let's just say I would have been nervous to be home alone for even a minute, and I'm pretty sure we would have contracted some disease.  We visited a few other places, and found somewhere we loved!  It turns out it is possible to find a place to live in less than 3 hours!

The next day, we flew to Arizona to start off our crazy wedding week!

Garrett and Ashton's 2011 part 2 coming soon...

Ashton Moments

So last night Garrett got me thinking about all the really really smart things I have done in my life... and by really really smart I mean unbelievably "blonde."  Let me tell you about a conversation we had last night when I discovered it was snowing.

Me: "I really wish we had some hot chocolate to make right now!"

Garrett:  "Didn't you buy chocolate milk today babe?"

Me:  "Well yeah, but I want hot chocolate, not chocolate milk."

Garrett:  "What do you think chocolate milk heated up is?"

hmmmm yeah never thought about that.  Now this is no where near my worst... but it got me thinking about some of the funny things I have done because of my ditziness.  So for your entertainment, I have thought of my top two "Ashton Moments."

2.  It was my first semester of college, and I was heading home for Thanksgiving.  Jamie, Josh, Zoie, and I were packed and ready to go!  We head to the ticket counter and I wait patiently for the Adcox's to get checked in.  Then it was my turn.  I enter my last name, and no flights show up.  I enter my confirmation number, and still no flights show up.  I think to myself "hmmm their system must not be working."  I then ask the lady behind the desk for some help.  Looks like this smarty pants booked her flight for the wrong day!  The wrong week even.  But don't worry, I managed to book the right time at least.  And this would happen over the busiest travel holiday!  Jamie laughed and called my mom while I tried to work something out with the Southwest assistant.  My poor mom didn't think her baby was going to make it home!  But I was given a standby ticket, and walked to the gate.  Everyone boarded, and still no call for "Ashton Adair."  But lo and behold, just as the plane was about to take off I heard "Ashton Adair, please come to Gate ..."  And I made it on the plane!  But not before having a serious blonde moment.

1.  And for number one.... this is a no brainer.  I hope I never do anything this bad ever again.  It happened just over a year ago.  I walked down to the parking garage to head to work, only to discover that my car wasn't where I left it...  I started to panic.  "Who was playing a joke on me?"  "This really isn't funny, I have to get to work."  Well after searching for a little while, I called my roommate to take me to work.  I started texting all my friends, asking if they had seen my car.  One of my other rommates (Katelin, you know who you are) claimed to have seen it the night before, right where I thought I had left it.  It was at this point where I thought it might be gone.  No one was admitting to playing a joke.  After a little while, I decided I had to call the cops.  I filed a claim for a stolen vehicle.  After work, one of my friends dropped me off at home so I could meet the cops.  The officer informed me that Honda Accords are the most commonly stolen cars in America, so of course they chose my car!  But who knew such a thing could happen in Provo Utah!  Of course I was crying a stressing by this point.  My dad reassured me that everything would be fine, and we would figure out the car situation when they came to visit the next weekend.  Poor Garrett had to drive me around for a couple days, and the cops still hadn't found anything out.  But one day on our drive to work, Garrett said "We know it can't be at school because you always walk to school with me."  DING DING DING.  I did walk to school with him that day, but I had a night class.....that I drove to.... and had a roommate pick me up for FHE.... Oh wow.  You would have thought I would have discovered this a little sooner!  Garrett dropped me off and headed to the Faculty Parking lot, where my car was peacefully sitting.  3 days in a faculty spot, and only 1 $10 dollar ticket.  Looks like Provo isn't that scary of a place after all!

Okay sorry for the novel... I miss writing.  But if you can think of another one of my "Ashton Moments"  feel free to share!

Families

For some reason I have been thinking about families more than usual lately.  Well it all started on Sunday in relief society.  I sat next to this adorable girl who also moved in to our ward this summer.  She told me that she has been married for 3 years and has 1 little girl.  After I told her I just got married, she proceeded to ask me if I get along with my inlaws.  After I told her yes, she went into detail about how she cannot stand hers.  She then told me her husband hates her family.  She expressed her desire to move far far away from both families so they don't have to see them.

This conversation got me thinking.  First of all, who goes and tells a random girl that they just met that she hates her inlaws?  My next thought was how grateful I am for the family I have, and the family I married in to.  Both set of parents would do anything for us.  Then we have our siblings who really are our best friends.  Because we are apart of such great families, in comes the pressure!  Lately I have been feeling guilty that I'm not being a good enough daughter, sister, aunt, etc. At the same time, I feel like I'm sometimes holding my husband back from doing things he would like to do with his family.  When both sides are as close as ours, its a little bit of a struggle to keep everyone happy!  But after talking to my new chatty friend in relief society, I decided I wouldn't have it any other way!  I will take the pressure that comes along with having such great families anyday.  Families are the greatest blessing, and I'm so grateful that I get to be with these people for all eternity.

Brother in law #6

And I almost forgot one of the most exciting things that happened this summer... my little sister-in-law got engaged!  We couldn't be happier for them.  Both Garrett and I love Jimmer and are excited to add another brother-in-law to our list.  Especially one who makes Whit so happy!

Long overdue

Well it's official, I am a terrible blogger!  I once thought that I would be good at updating this thing once I got married, but I was wrong.  Let's see if I can change my ways.  So since I haven't written since June, I will use this post as a little mini update of the past 3 months!

-A trip to California with my family!  I don't think I started really appreciating our Adair family California trips until I moved away.  Nothing is better than a week on the beach with my favorite people.  I just discovered that I don't have a single picture from the trip:  looks like I was having too much fun to whip out  the camera.

- A visit from my mom, dad, and Mike.  I wish that the business aspect of the trip went a little better for the boys so more of these visits were in store!

- A day trip to Vail to meet Jimmy's girlfriend Jordan before the rest of the Wonnacott's traveled to Alaska.

-Hike to hanging lake.  It was BEAUTIFUL and reminded me of Havasupi.

- A quick trip to Utah to move Whitney

- My 1st 14er.  I'm trying to sound like I fit in with people here in Colorado with this phrase.  A 14er is any mountain over 14,000 feet.  It is not an easy task, but we loved it!  A couple from our ward invited us to camp the night before, and then hike Mount Democrat.  Don't let the summer date fool you: It was one of the coldest nigths of my life.  Even Garrett was cold...that's when you know!  But regardless it was a blast and this definitely won't be our last 14er.

In case you were wondering, that definitely is a band-aid on my forehead.  I was trying to start a new fashion statement.  I ran into the trunk of the car not once, but twice.  The second time did me in, hence the nasty band-aid.  I blame it on the fact that I lost a contact in our tent somewhere...

-The hottest August on record in Colorado.  I have a hard time saying this without laughing.  Everyday on the news, they talk about how hot it was.  But let me tell you, they don't know what hot is!  We didn't hit 100 degrees all summer.  I could get used to Colorado summer weather!  But it is starting to disappear before my eyes...  At least I love fall and the boots and sweaters that come with it.  It's the coats and snow I'm worried about!

Well I think this is long enough for now!  Sorry for the novel.  And I promise this time, I am not gone for good!
